Late last week I escaped to Chicago with Jen, her hubby Rob, and Kim to catch John Mayer’s first night in the Windy City for his Sob Rock tour. Before the show we grabbed dinner at a wonderful little spot called Alla Vita. I loved everything we ordered, but Kim’s Nutella sundae was probably my favorite bite of the night. After dinner we headed to the United Center, where John Mayer rocked our world with his amazing self. On our way back to the hotel after the show, we stopped for drinks at an adorable basement speakeasy with an amazing sound system. The bartender absolutely torched the biggest sprig of rosemary I’ve ever seen and shoved it in my gin and tonic while this fun little ditty blared over the speakers.
It was so nice to leave Real Life behind for a night and hang with my favorite people. More of that, please. CONCERT BUDDIES 4 LYFE!! I also learned something about myself on our trip: I apparently have a Real Thing for scruffy middle-aged gentlemen in oversized suit jackets with enormous shoulder pads. 🤷♀️
Recipe Round-Up
King Arthur has been killing it with their recipes, lately. I neeeeed to attempt this ridiculously pretty Berry Blitz Torte soon. This Norwegian Sour Cream Cake also looks like a winner, and how could you possibly go wrong with this lemon-scented Dutch Baby? Seems to me like a perfect addition to brunch.
On a more savory note, these pickled carrots absolutely have to happen. And I’ve already figured out what I’m bringing to the next wine dinner. Oh, Kim… We’re gonna get pimento cheese wasted!

My Last.fm 5x5 Charts for April 2022
As you can see, I listened to Ghost. Like, so much Ghost. And Spanish Love Songs and Lingua Ignota. And the Waitress Original Broadway Cast Soundtrack after catching a show at the Embassy earlier in the month. That led me down a Broadway rabbit hole for a few days, and I’m not a bit mad about it.
While pulling this graphic together I realized I’d forgotten to mention Daniel Rossen in my first “Listen Up” link drop post. Seriously, his new album You Belong There is lush and lovely, and you should definitely give it a listen.
Speaking of listening, here is a Spotify playlist of some of my favorite new and new-to-me tracks from April.
In work-related news, it’s certainly interesting when major competitors in your industry begin adopting almost the exact imagery and messaging you helped develop several years ago for your employer’s brand(s). I guess imitation is one of the greatest forms of flattery.
Well, I guess that about wraps things up. I’ll leave y’all with a furkid collage because epic cuteness. Have a great week! 😁
